Volunteers at The Gathering Place are much more than the “jobs” they do. Our volunteers are partners in care, advocacy, and community building. Volunteers contribute service hours that equal 10 full-time staff members each year. More importantly, volunteers remind our clients that there are people in the larger community that care deeply about issues of equity and the thousands of women and children who are homeless each night in Denver.
The Volunteer Department supports the community in engaged service by offering education, long term volunteer placements, student internships, court-ordered service partnerships and off site service opportunities for individuals and groups. Potential on site volunteers are asked to submit an application and schedule a tour and interview. Matching our needs with a volunteer's gifts and sharing information about homelessness and poverty is the primary purpose of our volunteer process.
Please download a Volunteer Application and fax to (303) 321-0679 or mail toThe Gathering Place at 1535 High Street Denver, CO 80218
To schedule a tour and interview, please call Jessica at 303 996-9046, or send her an email.
Off site volunteers can support The Gathering Place through much needed donation drives and our Fill a Bag Program, by selling greeting cards created by our clients and much more. We invite you to tour and to call the Volunteer Department—together we can create a service opportunity that educates and inspires your group, business, faith community, family or neighbors.

STUDENT
INTERNSHIPS
The Gathering Place values education
and invites students to participate in internships and practicums. There
are multiple learning opportunities for students through our milieu of
diversity. We rely on students to bring fresh inquiring minds which both
critically analyze as they bring creative objectivity to our program.
Students who have been a part of our community have declared that the assets
of those we serve have brought a new awareness in their personal and educational
path.
Over the past ten years, The Gathering Place has partnered with multiple
institutions of higher learning: Wartburg College, University of Denver
Schools of Social Work and Business, Metropolitan StateCollege, Community
College of Denver, Naropa University, Iliff School of Theology, The Art
Institute of Colorado, and the University of Colorado Early Childhood Program.
If you have an interest in partnering with The Gathering Place as a student
of higher learning, please contact the Volunteer Department at email.
THE
GATHERING PLACE ASSOCIATION
The mission of The Gathering Place Association is to support the purpose and
programs of The Gathering Place. Founded in 1990, the Association has grown to
over 427 members and has raised more than one million dollars for this privately-funded
organization. Our members assist the staff with fundraising, recruiting volunteers,
and providing direct services.
The privilege of membership allows us the opportunity to pursue, in the company
of like-minded friends, special events, two special membership meetings, communication
tools and an annual directory.
Brown Bag Benefit Our biggest fundraiser was also
launched in 1990 and used the simple brown bag motif as a reflection
of the humble means of the women we serve. Traditionally, the
annual dinner features an entertainer, author, politician,
or an adventurer. In 2003, more of a dinner/nightclub act was
successfully introduced. It will continue to evolve to keep
it fresh and inviting.
"Boutique" Fundraisers The Gathering
Place is often the deserved recipient of small benefits and
our volunteers are essential here. These events have included Bridge, Bunko and fashion shows.
Membership Events Some of the most beautiful homes
in Denver play host to our Membership Event in the fall. There
is also a membership meeting in the spring with an interesting
program that celebrates the mission of The Gathering Place .
Direct Services Our members are very supportive
of Betsy's Cupboard. Food stamps can not be used to purchase
personal hygiene supplies for our clients so there is a service
at The Gathering Place that we help stock, where they can get
toothpaste, diapers, non-perishable food, etc. We also decorate
the building for the holidays, plant flowers and maintain a
pleasing, welcoming environment for everyone. The women of
The Gathering Place can earn income by creating greeting cards
through the Card Project. They are special... and we sell them
at our events .
Holiday Fair We love this special day for the
women and children! Our members help with the set-up of Christmas
trees and holiday decorations. Mascots and sporting teams'
cheerleaders, entertainment, Santa and a hearty hot lunch highlight
this day. We give extra support by providing
everyone with a gift certificate at Target and/or King Soopers
so they can have the fun of buying what they really want for
Christmas!
