The Gathering Place: a refuge for rebuilding lives
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has!" - Margaret Mead -
Our volunteers are partners in care, advocacy, and community building who contribute service hours equal to 9 full time staff members each year. More importantly, volunteers remind the women and children we serve that there are people in the larger community who care deeply about issues of equity, poverty, and homelessness. Our volunteers are moved by the struggle of thousands of women and children experiencing poverty and homelessness and choose to engage in finding solutions and offering support.
The Volunteer Department supports the community in engaged service by offering education, long term placements, student internships, court ordered service partnerships, and off-site opportunities for individuals and groups. Matching our needs with a volunteer’s gifts and sharing information about poverty and homelessness is the primary purpose of our volunteer process. Potential on-site volunteers are asked to schedule a tour of our facilities and submit a Volunteer Application which can be downloaded by clicking the link in the panel to your right.
Off-site volunteers can support The Gathering Place through much needed donation drives at your workplace or community, by selling greeting cards created by artists in our Card Project program, and much more. We invite you to contact the Volunteer Department because together we can create a service opportunity that educates and inspires your group, business, faith community, family, or neighbors.
Our volunteers can serve in many ways...
