The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime center for women and children who are homeless or experiencing poverty.
Housing costs in Colorado continue to be among the most expensive in the nation. To pay rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in Denver, a family needs to earn $17.48 an hour. A minimum wage earner in Denver (earning $5.15 per hour) would need to work 136 hours per week in order to afford a two-bedroom apartment at the fair market rent of $909.*

    We’re More Than Just A Place—
We’re A Community Of Acceptance

 WHO WE ARE
The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women and children who are experiencing homelessness or poverty.

At The Gathering Place, on a daily basis we see the desperation that poverty and housing instability cause. On any given evening in Denver, more than 9,000 people have no place to sleep. Of these, 36% are children under the age of 19.

The Gathering Place offers a safe daytime refuge to women and children living on the streets of Denver. Our emergency services afford immediate relief to women and children in distress. Once women and children are able to meet their most pressing needs, they can then take the next steps towards rebuilding their lives.

 WHAT WE DO
The Gathering Place exists to offer women a safe haven, resources for self-sufficiency and opportunities to acquire new skills. Women who are able to meet their immediate and urgent needs can then collect their inner resources and make positive life changes for themselves and their children.

Every day at The Gathering Place:
•  We uphold the inherent dignity of each woman and child by providing food,
   shelter, warmth, safety and cleanliness;
•  We provide children with a caring and structured environment and connect
   their mothers to services that will help their children thrive;
•  We provide women with opportunities for education, job training and personal
   development;
•  We link women and children to necessary community resources and
   programs;
•  We create a supportive community for women to share experiences,
   successes and encouragement;
•  We encourage women to actively participate in the planning and daily
   operations of The Gathering Place;
•  We educate community members about issues of poverty and
   homelessness throu
gh personal involvement with The Gathering Place.

 WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty deserve a safe and caring place to re-establish their lives. We believe that every woman, no matter what her circumstances, is worthy of respect and is a valuable human being just as she is. And, we believe that those at the lowest income levels deserve a secure and decent place to live.

The Gathering Place exists to offer women a safe haven, resources for self-sufficiency and opportunities to acquire new skills. Women who are able to meet their immediate and urgent needs can then collect their inner resources and make positive life changes for themselves and their children.

At The Gathering Place, women meet other women who may have traveled down the same road. In each other’s company they share their experiences, give each other advice and offer friendship.
